A sad but touching story (a real snapshot of life in Toronto)

Is your cat missing?

Sunday around 6:30 while driving I saw someones cat hit by a car.
It was a gray and white (beige?) tabby with white patches.
This was at Carlaw & Eastern Ave.

She(?) was crossing the road and was hit by a car. The guilty car didn’t stop but we did. Another car stopped and the man driving carried your cat’s body off the center of the road.

When I drove back 20 minutes later the body was gone. I stopped and talked with some skateboarders who said a homeless fellow had gathered up the cat to bury it.

If this area/description matches your missing cat – e-mail me and I’ll give you more details. I’d rather this cats family have peace of mind not looking for their missing cat and knowing what happened to her.

I’ve posted this around on Craigslist and Kiji. Hopefully the family will see it.

Posted by a cat person, no doubt ;].

From a car person’s point of view though, running it over was likely the only plausible choice, if they even saw the cat at all (it could’ve been just a bump for them). If they did though, consider that Eastern is a four-lane street with traffic and cars parked in the curb lane, so swerving for a stray cat could’ve ended much worse. And for that matter, stopping to remove it was likely illegal and caused a traffic back-up too…

I agree, but it is still a sad story.

I never owned a cat. Why do they run away? Is that something the owners could prevent by… proper care maybe?

Some people let their cats roam free, especially if they live in a house. Sometime cats run away to, er, have sex, or fall down from a window or balcony by accident.
